Innovative High is a new alternative high school option in Madison that was looking to bring some creative people and projects to their classroom for students to build community while discovering pieces and parts of their own identity. We were excited to work with Audifax on a full year of identity projects while largely focusing on the "Be" mural during the second semester.

The theme for the second semester was “Be,” - “I am existing and whatever you add to that is your choice in the moment.” This lead to the students decision of wanting to see a tree in their hallway, in the colors of blue and orange for the design. Students saw a bit of themselves in trees, sharing that “All they witness and see - they just keep growing.”
Individual projects were simultaneously made on canvas, so they could take turns painting the mural and continue their personal bond with themselves.
The mural project started with two plain white panels (8' x 4' OSB), where students wrote what they wanted out of life on one panel, and things they would like to leave behind on the other panel. Then these words began to slowly disappear through the painting process, although they remain at the foundation of the artwork that welcomes students in the hallway.
